A free Youth Dance Battle to celebrate and commemorate 1970’s football legend Laurie Cunningham.

Platform Youth Hub in Islington will be hosting Steps Ahead featuring young dancers from the community who will be showcasing their moves in an event dedicated to the late, local born footballer Laurie Cunningham.

Cunningham was the first English signing to Madrid and the first black player to represent England at football. Laurie Cunningham tragically died in a car crash on 15 July 1989 aged just 33. Cunningham is not just remembered as an outstanding sportsman but as a keen fashion designer and soul dancer.

Yemisi Blake and Tony Nwachukwu head the creative project as part of A Million Minutes, an arts-led regeneration project drawing on the experiences and sights around Archway and Finsbury Park.

For the opportunity to witness the young talented dancers performing in Steps Ahead, get down to Platform on 26 July 2013 from 7-9pm. No tickets are required as this is a free event. For more information and directions, visit Platform’s website.
