Poetry Comp for Poetry Peeps
‘And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain.’
Thank you so much for the praise for this immense alliteration, however it is the only sentence I can remember from Edgar Allen Poe’s, The Raven, that must take the credit. So if you’re like me and can remember poems and how they make you think or feel but, have more creative talent, then this may just be for you.
Our poetic friends at Pighog are hosting a wonderful competition to help signpost yet more talent out there. They’re giving any filmmakers out there (aged 18+) the chance to showcase their talent and win a nice £500 pound cash prize, there’s also a runner up prize with their ‘people’s choice award’ of £100 and their film showcased next to the overall winner on Pighog’s prestigious website.
It’s almost an endless sea of opportunity as you can pick from any Pighog poem including from their pamphlet magazine or anything from their extensive archives and make a 90 second film (5 seconds must be dedicated to the Pighog logo) based upon the poem, live-action, animation anything!
Now, if you’re not like me at all, and can actually express what you want to say through the mode of poetry, then this is also for you. Even if you’re not a budding filmmaker but leaning more towards the writing aspect, then this is a fantastic website to get looking at and involved in. Pighog was founded in 2002 and based in Brighton, a beautiful city with plenty of character and muses to inspire and help flaunt your poetic aptitude in pittance or persistence. They also have some great events and keep you up to date with all the going-ons with everything poetry.
So what’s stopping you? Head over to their website for full T&C’s and get creating. Whilst your there check out all the other great events coming up. In doing this your, ‘soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted – nevermore!’
