The London Symphony Orchestra is hosting its eleventh annual Strings Academy programme at LSO St. Luke’s in London from Wednesday 2 to Saturday 5 July 2014. The closing date for applications is Friday 21 March, with auditions will taking place between Friday 11 and Tuesday 15 April in London.
The programme, which is limited to 30 students, involves participants in specialist master classes, workshops, orchestral repertoire coaching, and a concert as part of the four-day workshop.
Eligible candidates must be:
– aged 14 to 24,
– in a full-time study at a recognized school, college or university,
– possess a standard of ABRSM Grade 8 on the instrument the candidate is applying on, and
– must be of British nationality, studying in the UK or be a resident in the UK for at least three years.
Candidates must also submit a reference, a personal statement and a passport-sized photograph. The reference must relate to the playing ability of the candidate from a musician, teacher or college head. The personal statement should describe the candidate’s musical achievements and aspirations. Both the reference and the personal statement should be printed on A4 paper and can be up to 500 words in length.
Selected candidates will need to arrange their own accommodation, travel and meals for the program, though the attendance and tuition is free of charge.
