Come this November, Folkstone will be host to a celebration of all things literary. Taking place annually since 1980, the 2013 Folkstone Book Festival beings on 15 November and is sure to provide a wonderful experience for the most voracious of readers.

But this year’s Festival isn’t just for those of you who have shelves stacked with dusty tombs! The Folkstone Book Festival has an array of events for all young creatives. Take in some theatre: Transport Production is putting on an anarchic, modern rendition of Shakespeare’s beautiful As You Like It. Or perhaps you’d like to engage in a healthy debate? The programme features the discussion of some controversial topics ranging from our approach to modern womanhood to a philosophical back-and-forth on the importance of the arts. Find out the winner of this year’s HG Wells Prize and Folkstone Writers Short Story Competition or if you’re just starting out; attend a poetry workshop to get those creative juices flowing.

The London Symphony Orchestra will be on hand with anecdotes from their illustrious history and there’ll be talks on Science and the ‘Big Stuff’ for those of you who are not particularly literary-minded. But for those of you who are, treat yourself to some great talks with writers like Lionel Shriver, Dorothy Koomson and Mary Hammer. Look back at famed authors such as Wilkie Collins and Jane Austen and find out where your knowledge of history and literature intersect.

This is a great event to indulge your passion for literature and meet people who share similar interests – you never know who you might bump into! Visit the website for the full programme of events. The Folkstone Book Festival takes place from 15 – 24 November.
