Tell us what you do for a living?

Actress currently in Eastenders and performing at the National Theatre.

Can you describe what that involves?

Taking on different personalities and characters, reading scripts, going in front of the camera and big live audiences.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I love playing someone else. Particularly if they are really different from me. I like saying things that I would never say and getting away with it!

Is there anything you do not enjoy?

Being unemployed and not knowing when the next job is coming in. That is the low point of my career.

Can you describe what a day in your job might be?

Early calls, getting to work for hair and make up, get into costume, learn lines in dressing room, going on set and performing to the best of my ability.

What hours do you work?

Varies. At the moment play in the evening on stage at the National Theatre and Eastenders in the day.

How much do you earn or what is your salary?

It varies. Theatre is paid per job so no salary and not very well paid. TV is a salary and much better
paid.

How long have you been working in this area?

Since 1988

Can you tell us how you got to where you are?

Blood, sweat and tears! I went to the Anna Scher theatre school. I then went to Kingsway College to do a BTEC in performing Arts. Whilst at Kingsway
we had auditions to perform at the Royal Court as part of the new writers season. I got the part and then was spotted by an agent whist performing at
the Royal Court.

Can you tell us about your education to date?

I did badly at school. I have a BTEC in Performing Arts

Can you tell us about any training you have sought/received?

As above and just learning on the job.

"I love playing someone else. Particularly if they are really different from me. I like saying things that I would never say and getting away with it!"

Have you learnt any new skills whilst doing this job? If yes, please tell us what they are.

Yes in the play I'm performing in at the moment at the National theatre, I have had to learn how to roll Cuban cigars!

Did you come across any problems getting this job?

No not really. Occasionally when I really wanted a part that I didn't get, that can be very disappointing. But I don't really see it as a problem, you just get used to it. Rejection is part of the profession.

Looking back, would you choose the same job again? If no, what would you choose if you could start again?

Yes most definitely. I can‚t do anything else.

Thinking about your personal experience, what advice would you give to someone hoping to follow a similar career path?

I would suggest joining a local youth drama group. It‚s a great thing to do even if it does not become your profession. It's a confidence builder.
You can also meet interesting people who you might not normally mix with. Getting involved with Drama is a fun thing to do and as I said you can make
great friends.

Do you have an aspiration/goal for your future career?

I would love to work abroad, preferable in the States in a sitcom. I would like to play an American in an American soap to show off my all round talent.

How will you try and get there?

Hard Work, perseverance and faith.

How long do you think it will take you?

Hopefully not that long!
